About

Born in 1958, I have raised six children who are all grown up and doing their own thing.  I found it much easier to eat this way after they had left home.  Since avoiding dairy foods and sugar and eating whole foods I don't use doctors, (I don't get that ill*) and I don't have any problems with my weight.

More than anything I value the things that money can't buy. Having very little money is a blessing, as it would be incredibly difficult to eat this way otherwise.

I have a very 'addictive' personality - if I hadn't discovered macrobiotics at the age of 20 I would be dead or at least very ill and unhappy.  I initially struggled with moderate 'addictions', specifically things were comforting.  I am currently working on eliminating the last ones -  coffee, occasional hand rolled cigarettes and 'british rail' tea!  I still drink unsweetened soya milk capacinnos or organic black tea with soya milk from time to time.

I eventually realised I was sensitive to or intolerant of many foods which I found to be addictive, particularly dairy foods and potatoes.  The best remedy is to plan ahead and have lots of amazing treats to hand that are healthy.  Learning to cook and bake my own deserts, biscuits, fruit pies and cakes etc that are whole grain and naturally sweetened.  I will be sharing these here in due course.

I found the biggest fault of the macrobiotic community that I encountered in my brief contact with them is that it costs quite a lot of money to interact with them via classes, lectures, workshops etc which is beyond what many people can afford.  Luckily for you a lot of this knowledge is what I give out for free in this blog.  They also tend towards constantly talking about unfamiliar Japanese ingredients that can be very off putting to beginners.  This is in fact incorrect as the whole concept centres around the foods grown traditionally in your own environment

*I can generally trace the cause of any unwellness that I feel, usually related to having eaten an excess of fruit or baked items, deep fried items, flour products, or else sugar, dairy food, potatoes, alcohol etc when 'socialising'
